Photoworkshop Batch 2 : Exploring the Nudes
(The Real Fine Art Approach to Nude Photography)

August 2 from 9am-6pm to be conducted by Artist Painter Photographer Ross Capili

Workshop designed for Advance Amateurs (Who attended a basic photography workshop, Next Models PhotoWorkshop or have prior knowledge in camera operations already )

9am-12nn: VISUALIZATIONS while shooting the nude: The morning workshop will be dedicated to lighting the nude, conceptualization. All participants will learn how to capture in fine art photgraphy the female form. Main concept inspiration will be how the old masters painters pose the nudes with white sheets and where they draw the light.

1pm-6pm : ANALYSIS AND EXPLORATION: Creative lighting with paint effects will be the main activity in the afternoon. Participants will do collaborative hands-on body painting with two models and will have the chance to create their own compositions. After body painting, the participants will explore further how to capture a perfect frame through the lens

Workshop Fee is Php 3,500 inclusive of lunch, Certificate of Participation and I-MAG Photography Magazine. All participants must bring a digital camera (Point-and-Shoot or DSLR) with enough CF or SD cards. Optional (only if you have) : Light meter , Tripod, Laptop and Flash.
Recommended lenses to be used: 50mm, 80mm, 120mm, 15mm or 10mm (for conceptual shoot) or any kits lens. Zoom lenses are allowed

About The Facilitator:

Ross Capili is a Painter, Photographer, Digital Artist,
Digital Printmaker, Art Writer and Art Educator.

As a photographer, Capili specializes in Conceptual
Landscapes, Fashion Glamour, the Fine Art Nude, Body
Painting and Advertising Art Commissions. He was Official
Photographer of the 2005-2006 Mutya ng Pilipinas and
Miss Bikini Philippines 2008

As an educator, Capili’s teaching methods bridge both analog
and digital disciplines. Hands-on artmaking coupled with his
artistic vision is central to all his photoworkshops, which
he has conducted at local and international venues.

To date, Capili has successfully mounted 33 one-man shows
in Manila, as well as one in Paris, France. His
participation in 35 selected group exhibitions includes a
stint as curator and project director at the recent and
highly successful 8th Filipino American Arts Exposition in
San Franciso and New York, USA where he was honored with the
Pamana ng Lahi Award given to Filipino Artists around the globe.

A consistent prize winner from his student days, Capili has
accumulated more than 55 awards and distinctions since his
first photography prize in 1977. His most recent achievement
was the Photoworld Manila 2005 Models Portfolio Competition,
where he won two of the five top awards. His works are published
in several coffeetable books particularly the 21st Century Filipino
Artists, The Art Philippines and the Art Collector’s Guide Book.

Capili was Art Director for the Philippine
Airlines Advertising Department, handling US, Europe and
Middle East accounts for 16 years. Today, he is President
and Creative Director of OneWorkshop, Inc., Chairman of eArtPhilippines,
Founder of Photographers Club Philippines (PCP) and sits as a member of the  Executive Council of the National
Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Committee on Visual Arts.

COURSE OUTLINE

Day One

  • Intro to different types of photographic equipment
  • Film and digital cameras and their differences; lenses, other accessories
  • Camera operation and handling
  • Applications of photography: portraiture, child, events, still life, pet, macro, landscape, architecture, nature, food, holiday photography, nudes, fashion, fine art, photojournalism, art documentation, etc
  • Basic camera parts and icons, shooting modes
  • Proper exposure techniques: understanding and working with light
  • Reading the camera meter
  • Essential picture elements: rules of composition, balance, rule of thirds, frames, curves, patterns, light and shadow, depth of field, balance, etc.
  • Outdoor practice shoot

Day Two

  • Critique of photos from day 1
  • Lighting theory and practice, ambient versus flash
  • Using on-camera flash, external flash, bouncing light, light modifiers, balancing ambient light and flash, light painting
  • Creative photographic techniques
  • Product photography for profit: concept, lighting, setup, props, creating your own product photography studio

Day Three

  • Critique of photos from day 2
  • “Reverse engineering” a lighting setup
  • Hands-on shoot indoors and outdoors using studio lights, modifiers, and ambient light
  • The concept of Intellectual Property Rights and its importance to photographers
  • Awarding of certificates of attendance.

Requirement: bring any digital camera (point & shoot or DSLR). Please read your camera’s user’s manual prior to the seminar.
